Older MAKHLOGA’s tell and retell all about the past happenings and detailing every bit of those events is not possible here. The king then went to the goddess temple. She was taken in the lap, but she suddenly had disappeared there upon, the Raj-Purohit (pundit or priest of the king) advised the king to immediately leave the place, because the older lot believed that she would wash away the sins of that entire place.
The whole night had witnessed torrential rains that almost in undated the entire city, but it was strange enough that the fort remained untouched by the over flooded waters. The king wanted to know the reason from his head priest, the whole of Mayapur was under deep waters, upon his bringing the five pots of pooja of the king. Thereafter, the King proceeded for the holy Badridham pilgrimage, whose head priest was said to be a high cast chamoli Brahmin. He had taken with him the head priest, horses with keepers, kevats(divers) and his retinue on the pilgrimage. He then went to Gopeshwar temple for its glimpse. According to Dr. Naithani(famous historian) this temple Bhiti (wall stone) have still present the fingur-print impressions of the King inside it.
Tehri was then famously known as Ganesh-prayag and nearer to it is a place known as Chopra where he stayed for sometime. He, one day, proceeded for hunting, where presently stands a village by the name of NAKOT. He got himself trapped in that place where one of his dogs was bitten by a hare, which died ultimately. He threw a cursory glance over his head priest, seeing this untoward happening. The head priest told the King that the place was very special, having great significance where some pious soul must have dwelt in the past. Over the period of time, the worried king upon having consultation with his head priest, constructed a fort on that very spot and a dwelling place nearby Dogni. Sometime later, he had the entire place propitiated with the help of tantriks and pundits to get it purified by the enchantment of holy names and performance of YAGNA. This place is known as NAKOT, which literally means ‘Nine Forts’. Hereafter, the King of Mayapur Raja Vatsrajdev had decided to make NAKOT as his place of new dwelling. The Kevats now lived by the banks of holy Bhagirathi. Also known as dharma ghat & the Chamoli Brahmins (priests of the king) lived at the patta village which is hardly situated 3 Kilometers away from NAKOT.
